Basic definitions
Argument: The word “argument” can be used in different senses. For our purposes:
An argument is a set of reasons or statements given to persuade someone to accept a particular point of view. It’s like presenting evidence to support an idea and showing why it’s true, while also addressing any opposing viewpoints. An argument is the process of thinking through and explaining why something makes sense.[1]
