Welcome to AGORA’s Project Module on Critical Thinking Skills and Fallacies. This course is designed to equip participants with essential techniques for recognizing science denial in arguments about climate change, critically evaluating information, identifying logical fallacies, and understanding how misinformation spreads, making individuals vulnerable to disinformation. The module is tailored for a diverse audience, including students, adult learners, educators, climate change adaptation advocates, and journalists. It forms a crucial part of the Digital Academy’s initiative to combat climate change disinformation.
Why is critical thinking important? Critical thinking is the ability to analyse information objectively, evaluate evidence, and draw reasoned conclusions. It involves questioning assumptions, identifying biases, and recognizing logical inconsistencies in arguments. Critical thinkers do not simply accept information at face value; instead, they assess its validity and reliability by seeking credible sources, considering alternative viewpoints, and using logical reasoning. In the context of climate change, developing strong critical thinking skills is crucial to navigate the vast amount of information available and discern between credible scientific evidence and misleading claims.
