Disinformation campaigns 4/7
Why are these campaigns effective?
Climate disinformation campaigns are often successful because they tap into emotions, use familiar messaging, and spread quickly across different platforms. They work especially well when they:
- Connect to real fears, such as rising energy bills, economic hardship, or the feeling of losing personal freedom. For example, during the energy crisis, some false claims suggested that renewable energy policies were to blame for high prices, ignoring the role of global conflicts.
- Come from trusted voices, including local influencers, political figures, or popular social media accounts. When these individuals repeat misleading claims, they appear more believable to their followers.
