Disinformation campaigns 2/7

In the context of climate change, disinformation often aims to create doubt, delay meaningful action, or protect the interests of polluting industries. These campaigns typically:

  • Mix facts with false claims to appear more credible. For example, a real weather event like a heatwave may be wrongly blamed on secret technologies such as HAARP, rather than explained through climate science.
  • Use emotional language and conspiracies to catch attention. Claims like “climate lockdowns are coming” or “elites want to control our food and energy” are designed to provoke fear and distrust.
