Case Study 3: EEAS and NATO report – Climate disinformation as a tool of FIMI 2/6
Key narratives
The disinformation campaigns examined present a coherent set of misleading or manipulative claims that aim to discredit climate action. These narratives often frame global warming as exaggerated or a natural phenomenon, downplaying the scientific consensus on human-caused climate change. At the same time, renewable energy is depicted as unreliable or economically harmful, with suggestions that the shift to green energy has led to energy crises or de-industrialisation. Another recurring theme is the portrayal of climate policy as a Western-driven agenda used to impose economic or political control, particularly over non-Western states. This framing is designed to undermine support for international cooperation on climate goals.
