Effective strategies to prevent and correct misinformation 5/15

  1. Keep messages clear and memorable

Avoiding complicated language and technical/scientific jargon is essential when correcting misinformation. People are more likely to understand and remember messages that are clear, direct, and easy to process. Short sentences and simple wording help ensure that the correction is not only understood but also more likely to be shared with others. If a message is too complex, people may lose interest or become confused—especially if they’re unfamiliar with the topic, like climate science.

To make your message even more effective, reinforce it with visual elements such as infographics, charts, or illustrations. Highlight key facts or phrases that are important to remember. Visuals can help explain difficult concepts, hold attention, and improve recall—especially in fast-moving environments like social media.
