Effective strategies to prevent and correct misinformation 15/15

  1. Engage traditional and popular media

Traditional and popular media—such as television, podcasts, news reports, and films—have a valuable role to play in strengthening public understanding and resilience against misinformation. These formats often reach larger and more diverse audiences than online platforms, and in many cases, they are considered more trustworthy.

To make the most of this reach, educational content can be integrated directly into widely consumed formats. For example, short awareness messages can be included in news segments, weather updates, or popular talk shows. Collaborating with content creators—such as filmmakers, podcast hosts, or TV producers—to weave fact-checking elements or disinformation awareness into entertainment stories can also be highly effective.

By embedding these messages in everyday media, learning becomes part of daily life, helping people build critical thinking skills in a familiar and engaging way.
