Climate threats and hazards 3/3
Climate-related indicators as proxies for climate hazards
Climate indicators are essential tools for monitoring and predicting climate hazards. These indicators can function as proxies and provide indirect measurements to estimate the likelihood and severity of extreme events. Many platforms, like the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS), offer tools to track and visualize climate trends or natural disasters. National platforms such as PNACC in Italy help local governments make data-driven decisions on adaptation to climate hazards.
One last example is the European Extreme Events Climatic Index (E3CI), which monitors climate hazards by using indicators for extreme temperatures, precipitation patterns, and other weather-related hazards. These are helpful tools in risk assessments and decision-making processes.
