What is climate risk?

Climate risk is the potential for adverse consequences affecting both human and ecological systems.

In climate studies, risk is closely related to disasters, which can be either chronic or acute. Chronic disasters, such as sea-level rise, develop gradually over time, while acute disasters emerge suddenly and are triggered by hazardous events.
