Climate risks 3/3
Resilience to climate change
Resilience is the ability of a system, community or society exposed to hazards to resist, absorb, accommodate, and recover from the effects of a hazard in a timely and efficient manner.
Integrating resilience thinking into climate adaptation projects and policies promotes a shift from short-term, reactive, and project-based approaches toward long-term, transformative, and holistic planning. Additionally, this approach strengthens preparedness, response, and recovery capacities through environmental, financial, social, and political mechanisms. In this way, risk and resilience work hand in hand, complementing each other in addressing the impacts and opportunities of climate change.
