Online risks: Content, Contact, Conduct
Digital literacy also means being aware of the risks that come with using online platforms. These include content risks, such as being exposed to violent, hateful, or harmful material; contact risks, like interacting with strangers, experiencing cyberbullying, or having your privacy violated; and conduct risks, which involve engaging in unethical or illegal behaviour—such as plagiarism, spreading misinformation, or participating in online harassment. This is especially important when it comes to sensitive topics like climate change, where sharing false or misleading content, even unintentionally, can contribute to public confusion or distrust.
Understanding these risks helps individuals make informed decisions, report harmful behaviour, and promote a safer and more respectful digital environment—for themselves and others.
