How to participate in online discussions thoughtfully 3/13

  1. Ask questions, don’t assume

When you encounter a surprising or controversial statement, approach it with curiosity. Asking questions invites dialogue and can reduce defensiveness.

Why it matters for climate discussions:

Climate misinformation often relies on half-truths. Asking clarifying questions helps you identify whether someone is simply misinformed or intentionally spreading disinformation.

Someone claims, “There’s no real proof that humans cause climate change.” Instead of arguing, ask: “I’ve seen a lot of research showing human influence. Could you share where you found that info?”
