Why media literacy matters 4/7

Asking the right questions

  • Newspapers and magazines: Are the headlines sensationalised? Is the reporting balanced?
  • Television: How are people and events portrayed in news, reality shows, or drama series?
  • Cinema: What ideologies or stereotypes are reinforced in films?
  • Posters and billboards: What emotions are they trying to evoke? Who paid for them?
  • Radio: Are all sides of a story being presented during debates or interviews?
  • Social media: Who created that viral post and why?

Whether analogue or digital, media carries messages with meaning — and media literacy is about unpacking that meaning.
