Media literacy and other forms 3/6

UNESCO introduced the Media and Information Literacy

In 2007, UNESCO introduced the term Media and Information Literacy to describe a broader set of competencies. MIL goes beyond just analysing content — it includes the skills to:

  • Access information (in libraries, media outlets, or online)
  • Evaluate its accuracy and relevance
  • Use it responsibly and ethically
  • Create your own messages, whether it’s a letter to a newspaper or a podcast episode

MIL promotes lifelong learning, civic participation, and critical engagement with all forms of communication — both online and offline.
