How to participate in online discussions thoughtfully 6/13

  1. Acknowledge uncertainty when it exists

It’s okay to say “I don’t know” or “This issue is still being studied.” Admitting uncertainty increases trust and demonstrates intellectual honesty.

Why it matters for climate discussions:

Climate science is evolving, and not every question has a simple answer. Recognising complexity prevents the spread of oversimplified or misleading claims

When someone asks if a specific storm was caused by climate change, say: “Scientists link stronger storms to warming, but it’s hard to say that one event was directly caused by climate change.”
